Wildflower Seed Sowing Service
Seedheads Sowing Team
At wildflowers.ie, we believe in sharing knowledge as much as offering services. That’s why, whenever possible, our first preference is to train your local landscaper, farmer, or grounds team — free of charge — to carry out the sowing themselves. It’s cost-effective, sustainable, and builds local skillsets that can support your wildflower site for years to come.
However, if you’re stuck or the scale of the job requires it, our experienced Seedheads sowing team may be available to assist. We prioritise large-scale sowing projects of over 10,000 square metres (2.5 acres) and generally operate within a 100 km radius. Capacity is limited during peak seasons, but we do our best to accommodate critical or time-sensitive projects.
When asking us to sow, we can do ‘better for nature’ and ‘Cut Costs’ with advance notice for Large-Scale Ecosystems Habitat Restoration- Nature Restoration – Species Conservation, we work up to seven years in advance. With some large projects we even moved the seed farms or nursery nearer to the site to be sown so only local species were sown.
Seed Sowing – ‘B2B’ service.
If we cant train or teach your team we will for free, sometime we have spare capacity at sowing times to assist on difficult or large projects.
B2B Customers incl’ NPWS, OPW, Royal Dutch Shell, BnM, Coillte, Sean Mulryan, Roadbridge, and lots o’ landscapers who have used our highly acclaimed services to assist their team to sow DIFFICULT projects, (Ashtips, landfills, pipeline, wind and solar, restoration of peat and woodland)
How We Work
Our approach to wildflower sowing is designed with nature in mind — we do not plough, rotavate, or use chemical sprays. These practices can damage the soil ecology, disturb existing seed banks, or create ideal conditions for invasive weeds.
Instead, once your team has prepared the site to a suitable seedbed condition (lightly firmed, low-fertility, and free of aggressive weeds), we arrive equipped with a quad and harrow. Our process involves lightly scarifying the surface — just 2 to 10 mm deep — to open the soil gently. We then sow the seed evenly and finish with a final harrow or hand raking if required to ensure good seed-to-soil contact without burying the seed too deep.
Specialist Support for Large-Scale & Sensitive Projects
When you engage wildflowers.ie for wildflower seed sowing, especially for large-scale ecosystem restoration or biodiversity-focused projects, we offer additional benefits that extend far beyond simply spreading seed. With early notice and collaboration, we can help reduce costs and improve ecological outcomes by tailoring seed mixes, timelines, and methodologies to suit your project goals.
In fact, for long-term and ecologically sensitive efforts — such as habitat restoration, species conservation, or nature-based solutions — we have worked up to seven years in advance. In some cases, we’ve even relocated seed production closer to the project site to ensure that only genetically appropriate, local-provenance species are sown. This attention to ecological integrity helps ensure the long-term resilience of restored habitats.
Business-to-Business (B2B) Wildflower Seed Sowing Service
Our sowing service is most commonly offered as a B2B solution. If you’re a landscaping contractor, ecological consultant, or government body needing help with complex or large-area sowing, our team can step in to support you. When we’re unable to train your team directly, we sometimes have capacity to take on the sowing ourselves.
We’ve proudly worked with a wide range of organisations and contractors on high-profile, challenging projects. Our B2B clients include the NPWS (National Parks and Wildlife Service), OPW (Office of Public Works), Royal Dutch Shell, Bord na Móna, Coillte, Sean Mulryan, Roadbridge, and many landscape contractors across the country. Our team has assisted on a variety of technically difficult sites — including ash tips, former landfills, pipeline corridors, wind and solar farms, and peatland and woodland restoration zones.
These projects demand more than just sowing — they require ecological sensitivity, careful planning, and experienced hands. Our reputation for excellence is built on our ability to rise to those challenges.
