Gap Creation

06-01-p13

‘Gap Creation’, is a must do ‘for most meadows’.

Gap creation simply means when cleaning up after cutting a meadow, that enough materials are removed to expose bare soil in gaps or patches throughout.

As we say cut a meadow down to 10cm / 4 inches, that poses a wee problem when using hand tools especially when raking away the flower meadow cuttings.

We suggest removing as much Cut material, then cut again to 10cm, using a mower set high, collect the finer dead materials that the raking or harrowing missed.

This action exposes gaps in the vegetation, its to these )if raking) that we should rake open the top 2mm of soil, just a scratch, one pass with a metal spring tine rake will do
