We insist you take and store photos:

  • Before works, weeding or site clearance
  • Site prep works (step by step) and final seed bed
  • Germination, first season and again first autumn after cutting and clearing

Send pic’s as attached .jpgs, png, or any file that open software will allow. No social media posts, share services or another method is acceptable.

If we are at fault, we will replace seeds for free, if its not your fault, we will also replace seed.

We don’t replace seeds sown on weedy or grassy ground where little or improper effort was used.

MM01 Meadow Mixture wildflowers for fertile soil is one of our top selling seed mixtures into the landscape sector

Naturally rich or fertile soils grow great weeds and vigorous grasses. This mix features robust wildflower species capable of out competing many unwanted weeds and grass, ensuring a colorful display from May to August and beyond.

MM01 can be kept tall or short, but not mid high. If grown tall, one cut per year, the flowers can be seen from afar, if kept short, 2 to 3 cut in growing season, it flowers for longer and is better for pollinators. In winter if kept tall, colourful finches eating seed as they flutter about the seed heads will enliven a dull day.

Place : MM01 is mainly recommended for the east coast and midlands on rich Irish soils. It’s ideal for abandoned gardens after clearance of unwanted vegetation.  Can be sown in disused vegetable plots where the soil fertility would otherwise grow unwanted weeds.  MM01 will out compete weeds with careful maintenance in the early years, and when the fertility drops and those weeds are exhausted, MM01 can then be left tall, thus eliminating cutting time.

Establishment

First Year

If sown before Mid-June the annuals will bloom profusely. Cut once in late August to October after flowering or leave uncut until spring. Always cut tall foliage early in morning or late evening as its easier with a scythe. Machinery best time is from 11am to 4pm as the materials are stiffer and dryer during midday.

If growth in the first season was poor and slow, being either ‘weather effected’ or ‘sown late’, in which case the growth of foliage does not provide full ‘nurse crop’ cover, we suggest leaving uncut until early March. Cut before the spring flushes of seed emerge and carefully clear away foliage so as not to damage any tiny seedlings that grew over the winter.

Developement

Second Year

If the first-year growth wasn’t cut, remove foliage in early spring. Subsequent cuts can be made in July, August, or September based on flowering and weed presence and how short you wish to keep the meadow.​ Biennials will add color to tall flora, but struggle or disappear with short cutting.

General Advice: Always remove cuttings to reduce soil fertility, which benefits wildflower growth over aggressive grasses.

If autumn sown, the mixture will contain species that restrict grass growth, please insure they have germinated and grown, self-seeded and that the seed is ripe before cutting, as they will not return without self-seeding

Towards Equalribrilum

Third Year +

As species grow, spread and interact, perennials establish and bloom and create stability.
Thereafter ecological resistance and resilience will develop. 
Manage any unwanted grasses by cutting in spring (before March) and again in July or August.​
For short meadows to control weeds on fertile soils, cut to >10cm after each flush of flowers finishes, flowers can be cut anytime, just like the common lawn daisies.
Wildflowers when cut they will flower again and not set seed, Cutting prolongs flowering and encourages pollinators.
Wintergreen: Moderate, some greenery persists through winter months. Colourful birds will visit, especially where sections are left uncut until spring.
