What to Expect : Please be patient, our seed mixtures are ecologies that take time.
First Year: Annuals will bloom profusely if sown before June. Cut once in late August – September after flowering. if sown after June they may flower up to December in a mild winter. Annuals die and do not come back. Some might, all depending!
Second Year: Short lived perennials and biennials will add color. ‘Year 2’ cuts can be made in July, August, or September based on flowering and weed presence and how short you wish to keep the meadow. If low fertility, only one cut in second year is needed. What ever either cut by October or leave until February to cut down and clear.
Expect Colour: In the early years MM02 starts off white with some yellow, pale pinks and mauve flowers. High summer sees the first Cream, Pinks and Purple, that will dominate in 3rd year. Acidic soils will tend to have more yellow flowers.
Third Year Onward: Perennials establish and bloom. Annual and most biennials will have died out. For short meadow cut to >10cm after each flush of flowers finishes, cut 3 times in summer. Tall meadows just need on cut by November or left until February, March is too late for grassland annuals which germinate in March
General Advice: If sowing on Clay soil it’s nearly always more fertile than not, always remove cuttings to reduce soil fertility, which benefits wildflower growth over aggressive weeds and grasses. Creeping buttercup must be removed in the early years, it’s toxic to plants on poorly aerated fertile damper soils.
