Development

Second Year

Second Year: Short lived perennials and biennials will add color.  ‘Year 2’ cuts can be made in July, August, or September based on flowering and weed presence and how short you wish to keep the meadow. If low fertility, only one cut in second year is needed.

If the first-year growth wasn’t cut, remove foliage in early spring. Subsequent cuts can be made in July, August, or September based on flowering and weed presence and how short you wish to keep the meadow. Biennials will add color to tall flora, but struggle or disappear with short cutting.

General Advice: Always remove cuttings to reduce soil fertility, which benefits wildflower growth over aggressive grasses.

If autumn sown, the mixture will contain species that restrict grass growth, please insure they have germinated and grown, self-seeded and that the seed is ripe before cutting, as they will not return without self-seeding
